480 parents, students, and teachers from Baltimore attend
a Family Science Night at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington,
DC. The Wright Flyer is hanging from the ceiling, above the
Apollo 11 Command Module Columbia. 80% of the attendees said they
had never been to the Museum before, even though it is only an hour drive
from Baltimore. From the Museum’s point of view, programming for
Baltimore residents is national outreach.
The National Center for Earth and Space Science Education oversees the
Family Science Night program at the Museum. 114 programs conducted
to date have reached nearly 39,000 attendees.
