Dr. Ursula Gibson gets a class excited about science as part of Journey through the Universe in Kansas City. In March 2004 she was part of a team of five Visiting Researchers that conducted 117 Classroom Visits in 34 schools. 5,700 students got to hear firsthand what it’s like to do research on the frontier. For Ursula, it’s research into the world of the very small. She is a materials science and nanotechnology engineer studying how light interacts with materials and structures a thousand times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. Dr. Gibson is a professor in the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth. |
